What a Jan-start to the year! #4CMonthReview
DISCLAIMER: January wasn’t like the “oh so fabulous. We had the biggest of deals and performance was right on top of the roof. Oh… work process was infallible and we didn’t fail any timelines. Oh we had fun every day at the office and we received 5-star reviews on the daily.”
If you thought the above upon seeing the title, you wouldn’t be entirely wrong. Reality would be a percentage of it. (Nobody ever said ‘percentage’ had to always mean ‘high percentage’).
Although the year began on a really new leaf, with several changes and a set of new policies set out to achieve real practical difference, January was more of a ‘pre-work’ month. Talk about setting the tone for a great February and entire year.
We began the year finishing a number of brand identity projects that leaped into the new calendar from 2016 and put forward a number of new proposals for some of the major projects to look forward to in the first two quarters of the year.
Our brand identity project for ‘Nigeria’s internet newspaper’, YNaija.com that currently leads a new and vibrant content brand for the smartest and young Nigerians was unveiled. It had been a 3-month journey (from last year) of continuous discussions, ideation, design, reviews and re-designs. This was a really rewarding moment for us. YNaija had always been one of the brands we always thought could do better with a stronger face to it.
Our ‘bi-daily’ cover designs for YNaija.com also crossed the 150th series mark. It continues to be a challenging-yet-exciting daily responsibility that we seek to improve on with every other issue.
Most exciting new project for the month was our brand identity project for Pastor Nike Adeyemi of Daystar NG. If this was all we did in January, it would still have been a full and fulfilling month. We created a logo that captures the simple and embracing personality of Pastor Nike, while it represents the core themes of her ministry — love-in-action and healing.
One other major highlight of the month was the #LoGoEveryday series gaining traction. We had begun towards the end of the year and this was about translating trends and events from our logo designing perspective. Our creative turns of the happenings in Gambia, the Kaduna International Airport announcement and Donald Trump got people talking the most. In simpler terms, we make a logo everyday out of relevant situations and causes.
And this would be incomplete without talking about our fun trip to the Idanre Hills. Real fun did we have. It was a much needed break from the office and a rejuvenating start to the year. Our experience (captured in pictures and words) is one to stay with us for a far longer time.
